| Davison Ebinne - Nigeria's ICT Voice - ICT Policy for Development
Welcome to Nigeria's ICT Voices - visitors to Jidaw.com (the acclaimed web initiative for IT and Telecom), have been sharing their opinions, views and recommendations on the development of the Nigeria's ICT for Development (ICT4D) Strategic Action Plan and Policies by taking part in the Online ICT Policy Survey.
Some of such insights are published online as Nigeria's ICT Voices to raise awareness and involvement.
Here is one of Nigeria's ICT Voices. He says, "Computer studies should be mandatory at all levels" and "we should keep the certificate syndrome and politics away". Here are the views of Davison Ebinne as captured from the survey:
Contributor: Davison Ebinne
To boost IT Literacy and Diffusion: Computer studies school be included in all the school curriculum, starting from the grass root, and in both public and private schools and should be made compulsory in all levels from the nursery to tertiary institutions.
How has Nigeria's ICT policy fared: I think the Nigeria ICT policy done well in meeting the expectations of the IT industries in Nigeria and we expect more
To stimulate the local ICT industry: I think individuals and some corporate bodies who wants to venture in the aspect should be encouraged and licensed to operate, like Zinox and I think also not only that but there should be regulations to monitor fake and copy right so to say by our Aba Boys.
How can Nigerian developed software be promoted:
How
the private sector can become the driving force for
ICT:
ICTs as an enabler of economic and social development: I am currently working and going to school communications tech in the Nation Open University and am a system admin in the company I work. We all need support from those who can help to set us up or encouragement. I went for an interview, were I trained some administrators on basic networking and trouble shooting and hardware and software management and maintenance. These people don't have any background for these jobs but because they have connections, they were employed for the same job I went for. I have all the technical background and knowledge but am only a diploma holder; they need a BSc holder. What can one say here?
Comments: We should keep the certificate syndrome and politics away and train those who want to contribute their quota in the IT industries in Nigeria and we will not regret it.
We thank Davison Ebinne
