| Olu Deyaolu - Nigeria's ICT Voice - ICT Policy for Development
Welcome to Nigeria's ICT Voices - visitors to Jidaw.com (the acclaimed web initiative for IT and Telecom), have been sharing their opinions, views and recommendations on the development of the Nigeria's ICT for Development (ICT4D) Strategic Action Plan and Policies by taking part in the Online ICT Policy Survey.
Some of such insights are published online as Nigeria's ICT Voices to raise awareness and involvement.
Here is one of Nigeria's ICT Voices. In his opinion, "more IT infrastructure should be made available to our kids at an early age" and "we will not move forward until the 'old boys club' mentality dies". Here are the views of Olu Deyaolu as captured from the survey:

To boost IT Literacy and Diffusion: One of the popular old sayings is "Charity begins at home", this in terms of IT development will mean that more IT infrastructure should be made available to our kids at an early age. How can you study a degree in IT and not have daily contact with infrastructure?
How has Nigeria's ICT policy fared: Like any other policy in Nigeria, it depends on the boss of the day and how much is left in the kitty for real development.
To stimulate the local ICT
industry:
How can Nigerian developed software be promoted:
How
the private sector can become the driving force for
ICT:
ICTs as an enabler of economic and social development:
Comments: I was in Nigeria for 3 weeks ending last week and I was very surprised to see how far behind areas such as networking was. I spent a lot of time doing research into this area and my honest opinion is that we will not move forward until the 'old boys club' mentality dies. I have been involved in IT for over 20 years and have implemented and continue to implement creative solutions for clients. I wish that I could do this in Nigeria, but I do not know people, which is about the only way to get through doors. In other words I will stay in my foreign country and continue to bolster and improve their IT infrastructure, whilst my country continues to lose sight of the present trend because I have no friends in 'HIGH PLACES'.
We thank Wunmi Hassan for her time and contribution!
