Draft National ICT Information
Communication Technology Policy Nigeria
Jan 9 2012 - Nigeria's Federal Government has released the Draft National Information Communications Technology policy for the country. The document was released by the Ministry of Communication Technology as promised in August 2011 by Mrs. Omobola Johnson, Minister of Communication Technology.

The Honourable Minister of Communications Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, on 25th August 2011, set up an Adhoc Committee to harmonize all the various policies for the different sectors in the ICT industry (Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Information Technology and Postal Services).
The Draft National ICT Policy has been uploaded on the Ministry’s website on this link (Adobe reader required). Views or comments can be submitted to roundtable@commtech.gov.ng
The Ministry invites interested stakeholders, individuals and organizations to view and submit their suggestions and comments. The document states that draft is: "the end result of the harmonization of various existing ICT related policies, laws and committee reports. It has taken into account the background, history and problems facing the ICT industry in Nigeria."
During the presentation on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Industry in Nigeria: Roadmap by Mrs. Omobola Johnson at ICT Stakeholders Engagement, Round Table Discussion, on the Digital Economy and Information Society in Nigeria Held on 22nd September, 2011, she stated that achieving ICT target levels for Nigeria, one of her immediate priorities would be to harmonize the Telecoms policy and the National ICT policy to come up with one single policy.
The Ministry's mandate includes:

policy development for the growth of the ICT,
-
regulation of ICT that is focused, effective, intelligent and sustainable,

consulting and advising government,
-
support for appropriate legislation for ICT,
-
leading and coordinating Nigeria’s engagement of the international community in matters of ICT,
-
oversight use and management of scarce national and public resources and
-
supporting the use of ICTs for efficient, effective and transparent governance in Nigeria.
